Issue

Today UTF-8 coding is only the preferred method of coding characters in ICD files, which permits vendors to choose among other codings like ANSI or ASCII/DOS. Not all the system configuration tools do allow importing of ICD files coded other than UTF-8.

Proposal

To avoid interoperability issues vendors shall provide ICD files UTF-8 coded.

Discussion Created Status
UTF-8 is de facto mandatory for all Tools - see Annex G, Table G.1, I114 and I214 and Table G.2 S111 and S67. Thus, it should be no problem for one party to provide a UTF-8 file, if the other party demands this. The usage of any other coding for a project must naturally be agreed by all parties of the project. 08 May 14 Not Applicable
