Issue

The ACSI service GetDataSetDirectory is mapped on GetNamedVariableListAttributes which has no "moreFollows" mechanism.
The number of maximum members in the dataset is therefore subject to MMS pdu and members references sizes.
What becomes the general policy with dataset where GetNamedVariableListAttributes response is larger than the negotiated PDU ?
What about conformance testing and interoperability for IED implementing large datasets ?
What about generic browser clients which do not read SCD files ?

Proposal

These restrictions should be clearly explicited like for Goose, including some additional explanations related to report decoding by a client.

Discussion Created Status
ISO 9506 does not support the more-follows construct. MMS is currently not targeted for a change in this area.

In order to retrieve the full DataSet definition, either the client/server combination must have the appropriate MMSPdu sizes and negotiation or SCL can be used.
28 Mar 08 Ballot Period
The particular behavior in question, is specified in ISO 9506. No additional behavior is needed to be specified in 8-1.

The appropriate MMS response, as specified in ISO 9506, is a Reject.
