636   Control section does not specify what to do for non-existent object access

Created: 06 Apr 2009

Status: Not Applicable

Part: Part 8-1 (2004)

Page: 83

Clause: 20.3, 20.4.3

Paragraph:

Category: Issue for edition 2 of this part

Issue

Table 69 and 20.4.3 do not properly specify the negative response in the case that the Object is non-existent. There are actually 2 response- (e.g. if the object can't be selected and if the object does not exist).

MMS does not allow a NULL value to be returned if the object does not exists. That would be a protocol/service violation.

Two (2) response- need to be specified.

Proposal

Change Table 69 and 20.4.3 to reflect an DataAccessError of OBJECT-NON-EXISTENT. Should refer to Table 23 as other parts of 8-1 do.

Other sections of clause 20 also need to be changed.
