Category: Issue may impact interoperability of implementations of Edition 1

Issue

The BRCB class definition in table 23 defines in 14.2.2.16 TimeOfEntry as the time when the entry is added to the buffer. For the report format in table 24 TimeOfEntry is defined as the time at which the report was generated. By the way in the latter case the attribute name EntryTime is somewhat missleading because this is not the time of entry in the buffer but the time of report generation.

So we have two different definitions of EntryTime!

Proposal

If TimeOfEntry in the report is the report generation time, what then is the purpose of EntryTime in the BRCB class? Or should TimeOfEntry in the report be the entry time in the buffer?

Is the name EntryTime right for the report generation time?

EntryID in GetBCRBValues:
"The value of EntryID, returned in a GetBRCBValues response shall be defined as follows:
• When the BRCB state is disabled: a GetBRCBValues shall return the EntryID value that represents the last (i.e..newest) entry that has been entered into the buffer.
• When the BRCB state is resync: a GetBRCBValues shall return the value of the EntryID specified within the last SetBRCBValues.
• When the BRCB state is enabled: The value of EntryID, returned in a GetBRCBValues response, shall be the EntryID of the last set of events sent.
An EntryID value of all zeros(0) is reserved to indicate an empty buffer, no reported EntryID shall have a value of zero(0).
"

TimeOfEntry in GetBRCBValues:
"The value, returned in a GetBRCBValues response, shall provide the time stamp of the EntryID whose value is exposed in the control block. The value exposed for TimeOfEntry, when the value of EntryID is zero(0), is a local issue."

Since there can be multiple events in a report, it should reflect the time of the creation of the report (would be close to the "send", but might not be exact). 14 Sep 06 Triage
