Clause: 8.1.3.4.6.2

Paragraph: 4

Category: Issue for edition 2 of this part

Issue

Some files in an IED, e.g. settings files, can only be updated and not deleted. Hence those files will always exist. The requirement for ObtainFile to fail if the destinationFile already exists will prevent such files from being updated.

Proposal

Change the requirement to say if the destinationFile is read-only or the name is unsupported.

Discussion Created Status
The ISO 9506 standard is as Thierry stated. Thus, 8-1 must adhere to ISO 9506. 01 Aug 14 Not Applicable
accoding to ISO9506-1
C.1.2.1: Preconditions:

"The MMS server shall verify that the destination file does not already exist; if this condition is not satisfied, a
Result(-) shall be returned and the remainder of this procedure shall be skipped."

Therefore, this is a MMS ObtainFile specification that forces the behaviour specified by 8-1:
"An ObtainFile-Request that specifies a FileSpecification that specifies a destinationFile that already exists, MMS ObtainFileError PDU. The ObtainFileError PDU shall indicate a destinationFile problem."

File replacement should therefore be performed in 2 steps:
- delete,
- set.
