Issue

It is mentioned that Protective functions shall operate autonomously. What is the definition of autonomously? Does this means that trip messages should not be send by hubs/routers/switches that are part of the SAS?

Discussion Created Status
autonomously means: independent of all other functions which are not needed for the protection task. Thus, if the trip is given by wires, then any switch / hub failure (e.g. permanent sending) should NOT influence it. If however the system is purposely designed to send the trip via a switch, then this switch belongs to the protection function. 22 Feb 08 Discussion (red)
